Subject: Who has a 4-cyl IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, I've noticed most people who posted on the 4-cyl board dont have 4-cyl. For that matter I dont either but I was wondering who does? Also what kind of performance do ya'll get in speed and towing. I was thinking about buying one for my little cousin who is about to turn 16 (kinda freaky huh?). Could ya'll give me some info on your 4-cyl and tell me if you can get a auto tranny in them? Thanks for the help ya'll.

Not at all! Makes extemely good sense.
I bought a 2.5L 5-speed Gen2 for my College student Granddaughter and she is tickled to have her own wheels. It's solid, safe, only holds 3, powerful enough but not too powerful, easy to insure, and not very expensive. A few years of driving that and she will be an experienced, mature and safe driver. What more can you ask?

Message: I have a 2.5, but it's in my Daytona. Just had to replace the head gasket on it, but other than that, it is a great engine. It isn't the same as a fuel-injected Magnum 2.5 in a Dakota, but it hauls the 'tona around fine!

Message: Thanks ya'll I bought a `91 4-cyl reg cab with only about 30k for $3k from a well known friend who owns a dealership. Steal of a deal, A/C and stereo (not premium though). It's a manual, I couldn't quite find if you could get them with an auto. I think it's a good buy and my cousin will be pleased!

If he takes care of it and doesn't get smart with it and doesn't do things it wasn't intended to do, it will take him all the way through high school and college with no serious problems. (How about posting a photo?)

I wish mine bought me a car, :) He's got (bigtime) Mopar connections in Windsor and Detroit.
Good job starting em off in a Mopar!

Message: Give your 16 yr old cousin some driving lessons with that 5 speed. It's a nice one, and no sense him tearing up that clutch by not knowing how to do it.
I rented a 5 speed Nissan Eclipse for four days to teach my Grandaughter how to handle a clutch before she got her 91 DAK. The Eclipse DID take a beating with all those killed engines and lurches and I'd forgotten how bad that really was. Now she's doing fine and will be a MUCH better driver for having a stick shift for her first "car".

Message: Thanks for the advice 2WD, I do think I'll get me a rental to teach the little guy how to drive a stick! Thats something I forgot about, just took it for granted cuz I do it all the time in my Ram! I'll try to get some photos for ya but I think my digital camera is being stupid. (Or maybe I dont know how to work it)

Yep, we tend to take stick shift for granted, but like learning to ride a bicycle there are lots of spills needed before the system really catches on to the coordination that's required. (The Military just gave up and now all the Jeeps are automatics. AAAaaaaghhgg!!!!)
