Subject: Doc, Anyone - Detail help!! IP: Logged
Message: Remember me? I'm the guy that hit the sheet of plywood? With your previous good advice, virtually all the scratches came out of my black paint.
Well, I decided that after removing those scratches, I had become a professional detailer and whipped out the electric buffer (AKA: grinder).
I worked over my entire truck with the "grinder" in my garage. It really made the truck shine. I used it to apply Mothers cleaner wax. I also used it with a fake lambs wool pad to buff it. Man, the paint was shining like a mirror.
I was so proud... until I took the truck out into the sunlight. In direct sunlight, it looks like I used a very, very fine sandpaper on the entire truck!!!
At certain angles, it looks terrible!!! At other angles it looks great.
Now what do I do?
Thanks
Bill

Message: Take it to a good detail shop and have them take the wheel to it. Find someone who uses PRO products. Pro makes an awesome swirl eliminator and polish that takes out just about anything. Where do you live?

Message: I'm in the Houston TX area. The city of Katy is a western suburb.
I took it to one detail shop, but no one spoke english so I'm not real sure what was said (something like bessa mah koola).
I got the impression that they did not want to tackle the job.
I probably should get someone else to work on it in view of the mess I've made.
Thanks Bill

Message: Try a bottle of Meguiars Clear Coat Body Scrub Paint Cleaner. Buy som cotton baby diapers to apply it with. It should take care of fine scratches in the clearcoat. Works really well.

Message: Don't worry..My brand new Quad Cab had swirl marks and scratches. Being a dark color they were easy to see. I had a professional detailer go to work on it. The first product he used did the same thing you are talking about. Don't worry, when the next step is used all the swirl marks will be gone, even some of the orange peel.

Message: Hey Dakaty sorry just saw your message. Ok no more wool pads.....can't say that enough. Wool pads are for experienced people only. They generate too much heat which causes the swirl marks. I swear by Meguairs. They have a foam pad system which consists of a maroon pad which is for heavy cutting, a yellow pad which is for medium cutting to light compounding, and a tan pad which is for polishing. Now remember you start easy and work your way to the more aggressive pad. Start with the yellow pad and use the Meguairs Dual Action. Use clean 100% cotton towels (white) to remove the cleaner after it dries, I would not recommend baby diapers as they are too smooth and all you do is wipe the dirt back in (this is not a dig at Marks DQC), just a preference. Do one section at a time, and keep going over it until the swirls are gone. Now this is going to take a little elbow grease, but it will be gradual, and less harmful to the paint. After all the swirl marks are removed apply a wax to protect the finish. Apply the wax with the tan pad, and wipe clean with a clean towel. Just a little note, I heard you say you had a grinder. Meguairs makes a velcro backing plate that screws on the sander/grinder for easy removal of the pads. Lemme know if you need anymore help. Sorry for the typos. I am at work and trying to squeeze this in.
