Message: y22man -> I have the same problem with rust spots all over my truck. I took it to a professional detailer to see what they made of it. It turned out that all the rust spots where caused by metallic bits in the brake dust. They are a pain to get off (use a clay bar) but I find if I keep up on my waxing, I don't get as many rust spots. Yet another reason to replace the factory brakes/rotors.
Cheers!

Message: As of today I have 3,432 miles and the truck was purchased on Nov. 3, 2001.
Current list of problems that have or havent been fixed:
1) Bed misaligned to cab, more on one side than other. (fixed)
2) Passenger side leakers, weather strip was ordered but they keep losing this damn item... im on my 8th trip to the dealer for work and guess what... I'm headed to NAPA
3) 4x4 decal slanted, wasnt slanted at the dealer, must be crappy glue =P Again, they kept losing this too. Finally got it replaced but guess what, air bubbles all of it. Im just going to removed all the decals anyhow.
4) Front bumper was slanted, could not notice unless you viewed at a distance (cant complain about this due to my fender bender 2 months ago... had to re-order a bumper which took Dodge 1 month to send @$400+ for just a peice of plastic. Only if I replaced the oem brakes I wouldnt have had an accident)
5) Cig lighter fell apart, yes it fell apart when I was heating it up to see if it works. Dealer still hasnt replaced it. (Hmmm wounder if NAPA carries them...)
6) Truck misaligned (fixed)
7) At time of purchase, they waxed the hell of out the truck and when I saw it, looked fine. After talking, looked at it again and saw a large bird crap stain on the hood. Salesperson worked this out and I recieved a free buffing... about 1 1/2 months later due to their "we don't have an auto body shop no more"
8) Second key remote died 2 days after purchase. Simple fix really, I just went to radio shack.
9) Cup holders are screwed up and still are after a new console was ordered. Or wait, did they just put in new rubber inserts in my existing console and say it was new?
10) I think my tail gate will fall off soon since one side is a b*tch to lock. Flemsy as hell. Dealer wont fix.
11) Shouldn't my seat be bolted to the frame along with the middle passenger belt aswell? I'm no expert but...
12) Powertrain and/or tranny needs to be checked. Maybe the entire body to see if its bolted to the frame. Ever so often when I'm stopping or going, when it switches gears it feels as if the body is going one way and the frame another. As if I stopped hard but didn't. Maybe its the tires. Maybe one of my gears is messed up. I have to take my truck to my local mechanic since the dealer will not check these components unless I pay them to inspect them. WTF, your telling me my 7 year powertrain warrenty is fake?
Again, I love my truck. Dodge was smart putting a V8 engine in a small truck. Looks great and when my billet grill comes in, will look even better. I'm just saying that Dodge has very sh*tty quality unless I'm an unlucky person or this is typical among new cars. If I keep having problems, I doubt I will stick to Dodge when it comes time to retire my Dakota or *gasp* trade Mr. Problematic for another brand.
But seriously, I bought a new truck to avoid having problems. How many more days must I take my truck back to the dealership? The people in the service department already know my name and such which I wouldn't mind but not like this. Some of you might say "well its your fault, you should have looked at the truck" Yes, I understand this but isn't it the dealership's responsibility to make sure their product works? How would you feel if you were a real estate salesman and I brought 5 contractors to examine what I'm buying? How you think the dealership would feel if I brought 5 mechanics and we started tearing the truck apart? I trusted the dealership that they made sure their product works but when I come back to complain they tell me its not their fault nor Dodge's. That is why they have warrenties one said. Well, thats why we have competition.

Message: I figure if this truck stops working and the dealer will not fix it, I will run down to the hardware store and contruct a VERY LARGE sign in the back of my truck that reads "Dodge sold me a LEMON!" and park or rather tow it in their parking lot and see how long it takes for them to fix it.
Im hoping this day doesnt come and my problems are just "minor" or "common"

Message: You can threaten to file arbitration........a lemon law. It is free to file and when I had my S-10 and the engine warped every 8,000 miles I was sick of being nice, and sick of being out of a vehicle, so I threatened to sit in the show room and tell every person that walked through the door what they were doing to me and what a crappy job service did. After the 4th try, I got a new truck. Didn't have a problem with the new one up till I sold it. :-) It amazing what people will do when you stand up tp them....I say go for it! You paid what about $20k or so for a product? It better as well be perfect for that price! Seriously, Just mention....."arbitration" and the'll have the truck good as new. Keep us informed ok! Good luck.

Message: I think that 30% of all new vehicles have problems like this. I see 40,000 dollar F-150's coming back every week with problems similar to this. I can guarantee you it's not Dodge-exclusive. The only vehicles that don't have problems like this are used vehicles.
You say I'm nuts, but look at it this way. Say you get every little problem fixed, and it takes 2 years to get them all fixed... when you get rid of your truck, all the little problems will be worked out, and the truck will be running good. That's just the way I see it, and maybe it doesn't sound as good in writing as it does in my head, but it makes sense to me.
I had a lot of problems with my truck, but I'm still taking good care of it (oil changes ever 3k, not hammering it..etc...) just in case I have it for the next 10, 15 years. I know my truck will never rust out though...I undercoated this thing like crazy. There's rust-proofing on every non-painted metal piece on my truck (even inside the bumpers.
Just stick with it, the problems will (more than likely) work out.

Message: Its not that the problems bother me but the nerve of them telling me they will charge me $300 to re-examine the truck to make sure everything is fine. Come on now, they missed 2 bolts on a chair? There are holes but no bolts. Only reason I never noticed it is because I never had anyone in the back till a week or so ago. Shouldn't a dealer make sure their product works and not charge for something they screwed up on? Obviously, they screwed up on the point inspection but wont do another one for free. It's like you ordered a steak well-down but it comes bloody. Does the restaurant charge you for re-cooking it? Hell no.
I think I'm going to send a complaint to Chrysler (I sure as hell have enough of those rating cards you get when you take your car into a dealership) and make sure that dealer's 5 star rating becomes a 1 star rating. I've had more than enough problems and now my power-train which THEY WILL NOT LOOK AT UNLESS I PAY THEM TOO ($300) is acting funny yet I HAVE A 7 YEAR POWER-TRAIN WARRENTY.
And all I want is a "SORRY" from the dealer.

Message: Plex,
The fine print on your 7 year power train warranty says that there is a deductible. The commercials always say that at the end as well.

Message: Is it a 5 star dodge dealer your going to? Also If they say there going to charge you... Tell them "F-ck you" and take it to higher dodge authority. The reason i was asking if it was a 5 star dealer is because those are the ones that you can nail esspecially good because those are the ones who start to panic if they feel there reputation is at stake... So its all a matter of getting them to realize who is in charge of the situation :). You and your 7 year warenty pretty much emphasise that.
Just noticed ya said your going to take it to Chrystler... Thats the only way to get things done if you feel you are being cheated.

Message: Ok I understand the "fine print" but at 3,000+ miles my power-train is acting funny yet they wont look at it? How can two warrenties (standard plus power) void them from even touching it? Shouldnt this kind of problem occur oh I dont know... at least 4,000 miles? //end sarcasm
Taking truck to them in a few days, if they refuse to make "things right" I'll ask for them to give me a copy of our state's lemon laws plus where I can reach Chrysler's care department. That should make them think twice, I mean they are a 5 star rating dealer with "Quality" as their slogan (hahaha).

Message: On a negative, yet consistent note, the ball-joints and the tranny are going bad on my 2K QC 4x4 4.7. This will be its fifth time in the shop!! Woo hoo! I love driving the truck. Good power/weight ratio and great look, but I won't recommend it to others who ask about it. Just told someone this morning, who had asked about my dakota, to go look at a tundra or 4 door tacoma.
