Subject: Dodge dealer costs? IP: Logged
Message: Does anybody know what it costs to have the Dodge dealer look at your truck? My "check gauges" light keeps going off and I can't figure it out. Thanks!

Message: My parents 2000 olds alero had a similar problem. All i did was reset the system using a button in the fuse box. Dunno if its the same for the dakota but it wouldnt hurt to try i guess.

Message: Check to see if your gas cap is tight. Look at the gasket on the gas cap to see if it's in good shape. You can get the light for a lot of reasons, but if nothing else seems wrong, the gas cap is a good possibility.

Message: Call your Dealer and talk to a service rep.
He (she) may know something about your particular model that has been known to trigger the light.
It may be an emmisions issue that is still under warranty.
At the least, the Rep can tell yu how much it would cost to diagnose (SP?).
I used to think the Dealers charged way too much for their services. However, now, most auto shops use the Dealer books to estimate repair times and charge the same hourly rate as the Dealer.
No offense to anyone, but I ain't goona let no more untrained, greasy goons work on my vehicles anymore. Everytime I used to try to save a few bucks and get some low priced shop to do my work, I would get my vehicle back with grease on the seats, steeering wheels and floor boards. AND there were always left over and loose parts under the hood.
You get what you pay for (sometimes).

Message: I agree with Dakaty, the dealers service department gets so much more continuing training then the loacl guys, and they see the same thing day after day. Even if they charge a little more they are more likely to find the problem faster and correct it right the first time. There are of course exceptions to this, but generally speaking it's true. If you had a normal problem that was common to all cars, like say a bad alternator, then the other shops would probably do a good job for less, but to figure out a tough problem, the dealer is the best bet.

Message: OK, I checked the gas cap and gasket, all is ok. I then performed the diagnostics to see if a code popped up, nothing. Any other ideas??

Message: My 5-Star Dodge dealer's Service Manager didn't even know there was supposed to be friction modifier in the limited slip differential lubricant. The parts guy knew what I was talking about.
You were saying what about greasy goons and Dodge service techs' training?
