Subject: New tires IP: Logged
Message: I just got a set of 16x8's here recently and am considering my options for new tire to get the most bang for my buck. Would a set of 275/65-16 radial t/a's fit normally? I have a '00 CC 4.7L 4x2. Right now i'm running a set of 235/65-15's on the stock 15x7's (which are for sale by the way). I also looked at a set of 265/50-16's but I don't think they would look right unless the truck was lowered.
Any help is appreciated.

Message: If your looking for a tire that is wider and the same height you may consider this: 255/60/16
If your increasing the first number you must decrease the second set of numbers so you don't end up with a really tall tire. Unless you want to look like a 4 X 4, plus bigger tires will slow you down a little bit. But since you have taller rims you really should consider going with a lower profile tire, ie: 60 or less.

Message: So would the 265/50-16's be to low of a profile if I don't have the truck lowered?

Message: To give you an idea; the 255/55/16 is the exact same height overall with the rim as your stock tires (15s) and the sidewall is 1/2" lower and about 1/2" wider.
The 265/50 would be to short, the 275/50 would be a better choice.
Besides the 265/50 might be hard to find.

Message: here is a way to determine tire height.-first divide the first number by 25.4. ex.275-50-15
275/25.4=10.82 then multiple10.82x aspect ratio(50)---10.82 x .50= 5.41. then multiple 5.41 x 2. 5.41 x 2 = 10.82. then add rim diameter(15). 10.82+ 15 =25.82. the tire height for a 275-50-15= 25.82 inches.255-65-16 = 29.05 in. tall. hope this helps.

Message: Or most of the tire websites have actual diameter and width calculations done on the tires. Check out discounttire.com, tirerack.com, and bridgestone.com for ideas of what size will work for you.

Message: The stock size on the Dakota 16x8 rims is a 255/65R16, I've been considering going to a 275/60R16 (about the same diameter). This oughtta give you an idea on the clearance.

Message: BFG makes the 265/50-16 Radial T/A. Scorpians are about the only 275/60-16's i've found. I don't exactly need a VR rated tire and there are no local drag strips so i'm basically just looking for a good S or H rated street tire that will give me good street traction. BFG makes a 275/60-15 but not for the 16's. Very annoying.
