Subject: Almost Died So Need New Tires IP: Logged
Message: Yep thats right I crashed my truck into a guardrail 4x4 post. And it really stopped me from going into a ditch. I went a little too fast in a really wet spot on the freeway and fish-tailed a few times between lanes then into the guard-rail I went. Banged up my front valence (fog lights), grill and black bumper, along with a damaged radiator. THe good part was I wasn't hurt, but nothing else was damaged except for a few body parts and the radiator.
SO, to make it towards my question. I need new tires and don't know which ones to get. I have a 97' Dakota Sport Regular Cab with the stock rims (look at my profile pic). What size are the stock rims 15x?. I want to keep these rims for now and get some tires to fit them. I have BFGoodrich now.
I am looking for a tire that will look nice, but also perform very well in RAIN and dry weather. Wide, but not wide enough to stick past the fenders.
I know about brands, its the size that I need help with, along with which brands will perform the best.
Thanks and sorry for the long, long post.

Message: i feel for ya offroad322, a few months ago i was merging onto state rt. 5 in maryland off of I-495 in the rain going about 25-30 mph and spun the truck accross 3 lanes of traffic, thank God they were empty lanes... anyways, i hated my stock goodyear wrangler st's, i replaced them with Bridgestone Dueler HP tires (P255/70R15) (29" overall diameter) these tires just peek out from behind the fender, but i'm planning on getting r/t fender flares so i dont mind. so far i love the dueler hp's, great wet road traction, and the best snow traction rating on a sport truck tire that i've seen. great tires, check em out! btw, your rims are 15x8

Message: If you have a 4x2...
Stock size was 235/70R15. Mine lasted a whole 15k miles, so I bought Goodyear Eagle GT II. I had to buy more goodyears although I hate them since I talked them into pro-rating new tires. I got 255/60R15, but they are a tad too short, definitely better than the Eagle LS that came with the truck. I have close to 40k on them, and they are about worn out. If you want wider go for 255/65R15, they should be within a few tenths of an inch compared to stock.

Message: Actually my 4x2 has the 15x8 rims with BFGoodrich 275/60/15 on it right now.
Any suggestions on good brands for this size? I don't think Nitto makes a tire this size, otherwise I would go with them.

Message: Michelin LTX M+S. I've got them on my minivan and they're better than anything I've ever had before(including Goodyear, BF Goodrich,General, Hankook, Firestone).I like them enough to go with LTX A/T tires when it's time for new ones on my 2001 QC 4x4.

Message: I agree with Canadak - spend the money for Michelins...
I have LTX MSs on the wife's Durango - SMOOTH!!
I put some Costco (Kirkland?) cheap 255/75-15s on my 93 CC.
Not bad - not Michelin - but not bad...

Message: Put Bridgestone Dueller AT's on if you want off-road abbility otherwise go with the HP's. The AT's have the best combination for offroad and road handling. They are quiet and do great on wet and icy roads. The HP's are quieter yet and have great cornering performance and do pretty great in the wet and pretty good in the ice. You will be amazed how much better anything is when compared to the stock Crapyears. Anything is better than those....except that its harder to throw the rear out around corners now. Never been to impressesd with Michelins unless they are the Pilots on a sports car, even then I would put something else on if I had the choice.

Message: I have had goodyear AT/S before and they are a great tire. I loved them. It was the tire I wanted on my new truck.
I went to order my new truck and asked for them. The dealer said no problem but when i took delivery of the truck it came with GOODYEAR GS-A. They look sort of like the old Goodyear at but the lug hight gets smaller from inside out. I figured what the hell and took the truck.
Well. I have been nothing but impressed. They have the nicest smoothest ride on the highway with almost no noise. You dont even know if there is rain on the road and in snow unbelivable. I went around a corner pulling a trailer and a friend with the same truck and a trailer almost identical followed me with BFG AT and lost it doing the same speed and his trailer hit a fence.
Im not saying there better then the AT/S but they are better on highway and rain.
Michelin LTX are not that great if you asked me. I seen 3 people stuck this year and 1 guy lost his truck in the rain and took out a mail box. Blamed it all on the tires.

Message: So the 275/60R15 fits no problem? Does it rub the front at all?
I was looking to get those instead of the 255's, but the dumb ***** at dobbs was going to charge me 60 bucks if it didnt fit. I think she was mad that after she refused to warranty my tires and I called goodyear, they told her to warranty them.
