Subject: PCV bad? IP: Logged
Message: What exactly does a PCV do? I know it has something to do with engine pressure.
what are the symptoms if one goes bad? Is a PCV something that should be replaced at a regular interval like a O2 Sensor?
What do they look like? Where would they be located? Is it a part i can change?
Thanks,
Donald

Message: Also what is a egr valve, and what does it do? Is that a part i can change?
My problem is that all my old Dak is blowing all its seals over and over. I'll have them replaced and it stops the leak for awhile and then it starts leaking large amounts of oil out the seals.. especially the seals (I can't htink of the name.) that are on each side of the engine above the spark plugs...
Thanks!

Message: ya got a bad Positive Crankcase Ventilater Valve. You need to replace it, as when it goes bad it allows blowby pressure to build up in the crankcase and blow out your seals and some of your gaskets. You also need to replace the seals and gaskets that are leaking. The PCV valve should be replaced about every 30,000 or so miles. The EGR valve is not related to the problems that you describe. Go to your local library and look in the books on auto/truck repair to see what it looks like and where it is located.
