Message: My findings, after a couple of months' driving
KYB MonoMax shocks:
The 565049 are a perfect match for the specd
rears. I get nearly equal
damping (compression and rebound) over
speed bumps, taken straight on and
the truck does not bobble at all turning into
driveways and body roll is
significantly reduced without having to add
anti-sway bars. The ride is much
more firm - more closely resembles my wife's
'91 Saab 9000 Turbo; one could
call it almost choppy on concrete-jointed
freeways. Since I drive cars with
extremely well-tuned suspensions, I am highly
critical of undesirable
suspension behavior. Although not as taut as
Bilsteins, these shocks are an
excellent value. I would like to find someone
nearby with another 2WD Dakota
with the Edelbrock IAS shocks.
My only concern is the greater length of the
565049s; as I remember, they
are an inch or more longer, which would
cause problems for those Dak owners
who lower their trucks by using shorter
springs. With stock height, I have
not been able to bottom out the shocks (with
sub-abusive driving); but I
only drive on the street. The longer shocks did
make installation a
challenge, but by compressing them fully and
quickly installing them, before
they opened up, fastened at the bottom first, I
was able to manage it. The
KYB-supplied bushings and washers are
much smaller than the stock Dakota
pieces (a disappointment), but work fine.
Overall impression: Excellent Value!

Message: That's why I run them on my dakota as well. I love them!
On the shock bushings, mine came with urethane which are smaller...but don't let the size fool you.

Message: Does anybody use these on a 4wd QC. I really want a better shock, but I'm getting shock treatment from the price of the edelbrocks!

Message: Guys,
I only have 6,000 miles on my 2001 QC and the suspension still feels OK. In your opinion, is it worth the difference in "ride/handling quality" to replace the stock shocks so soon?

Message: Yeah, it seems any company that has been in business for over 50 years creates superior products hence the reason they've been in business so long.
Always go for the leaders that sell specific products and use the companies age as a major factor.
