Subject: Georotor Oil Pump Clearance

I usualy do not give amunition to my oposition! I have found one single refrence to a part in the engine being clearanced for 5W30 oil. The only part so far that has been specificly clearanced for 5w30 is the Georotor oil pump gears. This was from a writer that writes for Mopar Power. This is the only part in the engine that is specificly mentioned as being clearanced for 5W30. It also stated that the pressure bypass kicks in at 75 psi. I will try to find the site address. I found this article at work and forget to email it to myself.

I agree with you 100%. I gave someone a rough time on the clearance issue and the 5W30. I did find that this one part was clearanced for 5w30 and figured I would at least give this info to them. I would imagine that they clearanced it for 5w30 so it would survive if someone decided to run this thin of an oil. If you figure that a pump was clearanced for 20w50 puting in something like a 5w or 0w oil could cause low presure and low volume issues.

Here in Florida I don't think that I would ever use 5w30 oil. In the summer I would probably use 10w40. Another note... I got over 200 thousand miles on each the following vehicles using only Castrol regular oil with no engine work. 2-1972 Datson 240Z's. A Nissan 280ZX Turbo. A 2.8 liter Chevy S-10. My son is now driving the Chevy back and forth to Texas every 3 months w/234,000 miles. Yes, I'm old, but I still like to floor my Dakota...!
