I just sold a Honda 70 FourTrax LOL!!
It was getting worn and a b*tch to start! It started blowing smoke from the tail pipe (but it's a 4 stroke) so I knew it needed to be re ringed and at least hones. The guy we knew we sold it to re ringed it and honed it for about $50 worth of parts I heard.

We just bought our girls two new 90CC ATV's so they could have suspension and electric start.

Anyway. I was looking on ebay for parts for it, and holy sh*t there is TONS of parts for them Honda 70's!!!

Try eBay. Some places are business' and goto the link to their web site and find even more parts.

Oh. I went and found what pix I already had online.

i have a 1984 honda atc70 that didnt run for 10 years. i fixed it up and set the valves and put a rebuild kit in carb and i set the points. the wierd thing is that the points stay in timming for about 2 days! then it starts to backfire a little bit and wont take the gas all the way. a week after setting the points it will bearly go at all and wont even go up hill in first gear. when i set the points again it is fine. it seams they keep closing up, because when i look at them a week after setting them they are almost shut completly with a gap of like .013, when i set them the week before to .023. can some one tell me if im doing something wrong or if i need new points ect. please help.

Wow. That kind of sux.
Something must be worn.
Either it is simply slipping on the screw that holds it in position. Or worse, some bearing(s) or somthing are worn where the shaft has some play in it. If that's the case, you will never get it right.

did you bother to lubricate the cam that opens the points? years ago that was standard proceedure when replacing points (every 6,000 miles)in cars and I would imagine it would be the same on the engine you are working on. used to be that when the point "knob or lobe follower" wore fast, which caused the points to close gap rapidly like you are, we had forgotten to put a bit of white grease on the cam so the plastic follower would not wear so fast.

Great forum...great info...There is a felt that goes on the cam, you can drop some oil on that to lubricate the cam for the points, you might also check to see if the lock washer is still on your points..that might be why it is slpping.
The gap for the points should be between .3 MM
and .4 MM. There are marks on top of the flywheel, (T) and (F), and line up with a point on the chain cover there are two more marks inside the chain cover, and the inside top of the fly wheel. Move the flywheel to the "T" position and with your third hand adjust the points to the appropriate gap.
Now here's my question....I changed points out, on a 85 ATC 70, I had to eyeball the gap since my feeler gauge wouldn't go in....The 3 wheeler is strong in 1st gear but keeps cutting out in high second, and most of third, and when it warms up, it doesn't want to run at all...Are my points set wrong??? Is my timing off???
