Subject: Help! Truck won't start
IP: Logged

Message:
It started fine one morning, later that day it doesn't turn over. Lights and radio come on, everything is normal except nothing from the starter motor. Battery is good, and I hear the relay clicking when I try to start. I put a multimeter and tested from the bottom wire on the starter to the two on top, there is current.

Any suggestions? I need to get it running soon.

Thanks

Brad

Hit the starter w/ a hammer lightly..If it cranks over then replace the starter..Sometimes to get them to crank we have to hit the starter with some force..Good luck!

Sounds like the starter or the starter solinoid is bad. Does it click rapidly even if you hold it in the 'crank' position? Thats the solinoid and you'll have to replace it. Other than that, try hitting the starter like suggested :0)

Found the problem. I tested the solenoid, it was getting power. I jumped it and it started up. Problem is the tranny linkage is stretched or something. I was told it could be bent, and just to bend it back. Right now everything is shifted over, park is reverse, etc.

Is bending it back simple or should I let a tranny place do it, and charge me an hours work for 5 mins.

Thanks
