When should you get the first oil change in a new truck? The dealer told me that a lot of people do it after around 500 miles. I've heard other people say that you should just follow the 3000/7500 mile rules.

Any thoughs?

Thanx

Did my first one at 540 second at 2976, my next one will be at 6000 but I will be using mobile 1

I suggest do the first one anywhere from 500-1000. That way you get all the break-in debris out of the motor and then make sure you give the motor a few thousand miles to break-in before you use a synthetic type of oil, that way the rings are nice and seated. This is just my opinion,

I'm doing mine at 3000, gotta make sure the rings set well. I don't know about dodge engines, but out of all the engines I have re built, I have always waited to change the oil, I've heard that if you change it too soon, it can effect the rings "setting" in, the reason for cross hatch in a bore.
