Subject: Terry Cloth Scratched my finish IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I've noticed that the 100% terry cloth will occasionally scratch the clear coat, unless it is moisturized with wax. Has anyone noticed this? It seems pretty evident on my black clear coat.
I live in an area where there's a lot of dust and I like to keep my truck clean of brown dust whenever I can. But the problem is that even the softest fiber duster (made for autos) will also scratch the clear coat! Does anyone have suggestions on keeping their truck free of dust? (Car cover will work, but I collect dust when I'm driving near agriculture).
Thanks,

Message: I feel your pain but unfortunately don't have an answer. I noticed the same thing to my '99 Malibu about the third wash. It being a dark color doesn't help either.
Haven't had a chance to wash the Dakota yet so I can't tell you how that worked out.

Message: FWIW, Zaino says to be very careful with towels and make sure you're buying stuff made in the USA because the imported stuff will scratch. The 100% cotton stuff you typically find in Autozones, Costcos and the like is made in Pakistan. Watch your labels.

Message: It's funny how you brought that up. It's the same with several other products I buy.
For one, rawhides (although I don't buy them for my labrador), aren't really safe if they are imported. They can contain some unknown bacteria.
I'll keep that in mind the next time I buy 100% terry cloth. Thanks.

Message: Wash the truck. I've washed mine a couple times a week before to deal with this. Also Meguiars makes a product called Quick Detailer thats supposed to take fresh contaminants off without scratching. The bottle says that its high lubricity formula will take dust and dirt off without scratching. I've used it before and never noticed any scratches. I sprayed it on and used 100% terry cloth towels to take it off.
