Subject: Novice Question IP: Logged
Message: I have a '94 Dakota, 5.2L, automatic. I love her and she loves me. . .except on rare occasions in 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear she dies on me. Out of the blue I'll be accelerating quickly (NOT hard!)ie; merging or passing and she just up and dies. I have to turn on the hazards and coast aside, THEN to top it all off I think the neutral switch is bad. 'Cuz when I'm on the side of the road I drop it back into park and try to start, nuthin', put in neutral and try again, somtimes yes, sometimes no. I have had to wait upwards of 5 minutes before she's ready, and then it may be in park or neutral. . .but so far we always get rolling again. Sound familiar to anyone? Any thoughts or suggestions before I go to the dealer and get diagnosed?

Message: The shutting off if instant could be electrical possibly a bad dist. pickup ie. sync or play in the distributor shaft bushing. Check for codes.
The nostart if not even cranking could be starter relay, starter, pos. bat. cable, etc.
If the nostart only occurs after a shutoff it could be someother electrical problem and they may be related. Possible bad ground bat cable?

Message: Same thing happened to me. The prongs on the plug to the coil were loose. Cost me 200 bucks to track it down.
