Subject: Strange sticker charge IP: Logged
Message: I didn't really notice this before, but have a strange charge of $44 on my window sticker. It is for "Transportation-Warren Auto Body". Anyone seen this before or know what it is for? If it means anything, my Dakota was ordered and shipped to me overseas. (Military)
Thanks for the help.

Message: Gary that may be a charge to remove the cat. conveter and to store to put back on when you ship it home. I bought a Nissan when I was stationed in Germany, back in '85, and I had a charge for those services.Thats the best answer I can come up with.

Message: Good guess, but I have all 3 converters installed. They don't do that anymore, as all the bases that one can take a vehicle have unleaded fuel. That was the main reason why the converters were removed.
Besides, it says "transportation", not vehicle prep or something like that.
Thanks for the input though.

Message: Maybe it has something to do with, paint prep.. and or frame also, shipping overseas (salt water) damage prevention..

Message: Sounds to me like it was towed/flatbedded to the freighter at the port where they shipped it from. Just a guess.

Message: Mmm. BlackDak02 that could be, but wouldn't that normal destination charge of $585 take care of that? I would think that the truck would get shipped from the factory directly to the company that prepped it for overseas shipment via the normal car haulers. It shouldn't be any different than shipping it to a dealership. Besides, what do you get for $44 these days?
The mystery continues.

Message: Who knows? I thought that was kind of a lowball figure in pricing myself, they get more than that just to hook up;-) A true enigma...

Message: Did you have it rustproofed? There is a Warren Autobody Rustproofing in Warren, MI (think thats where they are made). Maybe the rusproofing was subcontracted to them. Another guess.

Yes, the Dakotas are made in Warren, MI. When I get back to the U.S. in March I'm going to the local dealer and see if they know. Not a big deal, but curiousity is getting the best of me.

Message: Your truck was probably involved in some horrendus accident on the assembly line so they shipped it off to that shop for repairs! Then they had the gall to charge you to drag what was left of your truck overthere. Wouldn't that suck!
