Subject: Speed Recalibration? IP: Logged
Message: Anyone know how to re-calibrate a speedo on a 2000 Dak with the 4.7L and auto?
The "friendly local dodge dealer" told me they couldn't do it by computer.....
Are there any solutions?
Thanks,
Josh

Message: Recalibrate it to what? All that can be done is set it within the biggest and smallest facory tires.
2001 RC 4.7 5sp 9.25" 3.92 LSD Ported 68mm throttle body, IAT adjuster, 3" flowmaster cat back, TPS @ .76V, 4" cold air, Roadmaster active suspention, Removed Third cat. Electric fan Convertion, Awaiting HO cams. Working on adjustable fuel pressure with return.

Message: The factory ratio is 3.55 and the factory tire size is 235/75R15.
I lowered the truck and want shorter tires on, maybe to the factory 215/75R15 size available. Have any clue?
Thanks,
Josh

What should I tell the service writer they need to do? How much should I expect to pay?
Thanks,

Message: Yep
Tell them that you want the pinion factor changed to the desired tire size. Like I say you can only change them to the tire sizes that were avalible from the factory.
What size tire are you going to?

Message: CW,
Thanks for your info. I purchased 16" aftermarket wheels for pretty cheap and am thinking 255/55R16s will be pretty close to 215/75R15s. It will be off a hair, but not a big deal at all.
This pinion factor can be changed on any current Dak, or is it transmission or engine specific...or model year specific?
Thanks again,
Josh

Message: It can be changed on any dak '98 or newer. Get them to set it to the 215 tire and have fun. Oh I forgot to mention they will probably charge 1/2 hour for the work.

Message: I put R/T rims and 255/60/17 tires on my truck (200 dak spt 4.7 auto). And the rim change made my speedometer really mess up. It wasnt even working till i hit 12-15 mph. And also i had a huge stall from 1st to 2nd gear. I went to the dealer and had the computer programmed to 255/55/17 which they said was the closest they had. With the repragramming and an oil chnage it cost me 48$. So it not too expensive to get it done. But i think the speedo is still off a lil. My girl was driving the other nite and got an 80mph in 65 mpg ticket. And i was watching the speedometer, we never hit 80. Then again the cop that stopped hates me. But anyways u need to get that speedo fixed...
