Subject: Burnt Smell? IP: Logged
Message: Most of you know that I just got my new Quad Cab last week. But I'm a little concerned with the burnt smell I get whenever I step outside of my truck after driving. I'm not sure where the burnt smell is coming from... either from the engines or somewhere else. I've also noticed that I can smell it again when I turn on my air conditioner.
Any ideas?

New truck with how many miles?
You will have some odor for a little while with a new truck. New truck smell on the outside like the inside.
Like the trade mark on your name!

Message: I picked up my Dakota last Saturday and have the same. I figured out that I believe it is just the undercoating spray that the dealers put on. Hope I am right???

Message: I had the same thing with my '01 qc. They told me the same thing everyone has said. But on closer inspection, the back of the oil pan was leaking and it took them a few tries to get it sealed. Crawl under with a flashlight and take a look. This is also when I noticed that they'd never tightened the motor mounts :-0

Message: Clevite asked for pics of my black Quad Cab. Well, here they are:
http://www.pbase.com/honorerdieu/my_dakota
Just click on the thumbnails to view them larger. Notice the clean finish on my Quad Cab, I just washed, polished, and waxed my Dakota--which took me all afternoon. But it was well worth the results.
Let's hope that I don't jinx the weather again like last week. I don't want another rain to ruin it!

Message: Hey all,
I noticed that I only smell the odor whenever I'm using the A/C heater. So I'll have it checked out by the dealer if it doesn't go away.
Thanks,

Message: Hey, did that smell ever go away Tim? I've noticed the same thing on my new quad cab, it only smells when the defroster (A/C) is on.

Message: You know... that's a good question. If I can somehow get rid of this stuffy nose and take a whiff...
But I think the burnt smell did go away. And I narrowed it down to the A/C when I turn the heat up. But nowadays since the area has been warmer (70 degrees), I don't use the heater. I'll give the heater a try and see if the burnt smell came back.

Message: Hi!~My 2001 Dakota has a smell of something
burning. Online a lot of people say it is the
resister for the heater blower motor.
I have changed my oil and filter myself and the oil
leaks into the frame. Also, I just had my trans
rebuilt. Then after that, I replaced the heater
blower motor for $145. and the resister. I still
have that burnt smell.
