Subject: 5.2 Spark Plugs IP: Logged
Message: I have read several posts on the Autolite3923 plugs for the 4.7 I currently have the Bosch +4, and am thinking that there is a slight pinging with them underload...so is the Autolite3923 the same for the 5.2...what gap?
Thanks in advance!

Message: Check the resistance of the wires, if they are all about the same, with in 10 ohms then they should be fine. If one or a couple are more than 100 ohms or more apart then I would consider changing them. I'm not sure about the plugs, everyone keeps talking about the 3923's but never say anything about the gap for the differnt engines or if they are the same.

Message:
The gap for the Autolite 3923's is the same as factory...unless you're running an aftermarket ignition and/or coil. Then, you can set the gap about .005" larger.

Message: But are they the best choice for the 5.2? I also have the Plus 4's and I can't say I've noticed any ping. Will the 3923 actually improve my performance and gas mileage?

Message: The 3923s are worth the $8 and 30 minutes it takes to put them in. I have them, no more pinging. Hard to tell on the mpg yet b/c I am still right foot happy testing my new K&N. Performance will not decrease though.

Message: How hard is it to put these plugs in? I am thinking about doing it on my next day off... what tools will I need, ie extensions etc. What happens if I can't get one off? can I mix them until I get the others off? I have heard it is a beyotch to get them out of the back. =]

Message: All you need is a spark plug socket, 3" extension and a ratchet. I put anti-sieze on the new plugs threads and a small bit of dialectic grease helps the plug wires come off easier (as well as the plug socket). Unless you have over 50 or 60k on the same spark plugs, you should not have a hard time getting them out. Plus, when you put in the new ones, you don't need to torque them like a madman either.
