Hi,
I have a exhaust question I hope someone can answer. I was in ou local Costco parking lot yesterday and saw/ heard a 2001 Dakota RT. Nice bright red, and what a GREAT sound. Did/does the RT come with factory headers? I have a 1999 Dakota 4x4 CC with the 5.2 engine in it. Will the stock RT exhaust fit my truck? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The R/T comes with pretty much a normal exhaust manifold, the sound you hear is from a better muffler that was put on the R/Ts. And you have a 5.2L engine and the R/T is a 5.9L so the parts probably would not interchange.
Just get yourself a high-performance muffler like the flowmaster or gibson and yours will sound good too. Don't worry about the headers they really don't change the sound at all.

The sound u hear is very similar to that of a Dynomax Ultra Flow. Slap on a 3" cat back system with the ultra flow and your engine will sound CLOSE, not exact to that of an R/T. I have the 5.2L and I run a 40-series Flowmaster and i think it sounds mean.

You can order the R/T exhaust and bolt it up to your truck with no problems. You will need to order an extra hanger for near the spare tire.

The R/T come stock w/ a Dynomax muffler...not sure whether is in ultraflow or not. I took mine off though cuz I got a FLowmaster 40 cuz I put dual tips on it. The Dynomax sounded good for just one exhaust pipe.

The R/T used a mild version of the Dynomax ultra-flo in 98,99. Then Dodge started making their own high-flo muffler in 00-02.
