Message: I also wanted DRLs on my 2002 Dakota Quad Cab when I ordered it but was told not available in USA.
After some checking I learned that if the dealer would plug his computer into my truck and and scrol to Head Lights he could change the country code from US to Canada. He did this with the ingnition off I believe. When he started the vehicle I had DRLs and everything else still worked.
I did have to sign a note with the dealer that I understood my head lights and tail lights did not automatically turn on at dusk.
This worked great for me

Message: They are controlled by something called the daytime running light module. Mine burned out last summer, so I haven't had running lights since, and have to remember to pull the knob to turn on my headlights. The dealership wants $102 for the part. Only real drawback is I don't get the blue indicator light on my dash for high beams.

Message: Why do you want DRLs? Makes it easier for cops to see you. If you want your headlights on during the day, why don't you just move the headlight switch to the "ON" position. No cost to do that.

Message: DRL = Lazy or Stupid, take your pick. If you think you need lights on during the day, turn your lights on. But normally you dont. All this does is cause people to forget to turn their real headlights on after dark. Somehow they think "Hey i've got DRL's, or foglights, I dont need headlights". Car manufacturers need to stop dumbing down the average driver....if you werent educated on when you need to turn your headlights on you should'nt be driving.

Message: DRL are supposed to make "you" more visible to other vehicles and don't turn your Dash/clearance lights on just the Headlights,so you'd notice if you didn't turn your headlights on after dark.I can't figure out why people say they "hate " DRL ,you really don't even notice them?Have those people who say they "hate "them actually ever had them on a vehicle.

Message: There are some valid reasons people dislike DRL. Having your lights on all the time must wear them out quicker. Also this feature used to give motorcyclists a safety edge, with larger vehicles now with it it no longer is a warning to watch out for something smaller and more vulnerable. I once limped a vehicle home with a bad alternator by turning off all electrical accessories - try that with DRL. And lastly, some just resent "big brother" intruding into our lives, mandating stuff like this.

Message: drl's came on all the daks i looked at in '99. not an option. but the dealer had an add-on sticker for $300 for them. i said i don want them. they said tuff. i said i'm buying this truck, but i ain't gonna pay an extra $300 for a standardized option that i don't want and you won't remove. so they took that out of the cost.
i also have a little toggle switch near the hood release under the dash, and i leave em turned off.
wg34: i think most cars/truck look wierd, if not stupid, driving around during the day here in the Socal desert with their lights on.
also, i have enough aftermarket stuff hogging my alternator, i don't need daytime lights wasting power.

but dak9 my 90 dak has a module on the left inner front fender a square box with 1 connector goin in. mine burnt out causing the drl not to go off so i unplugged it vola no drl
only draw back is no hi beam indicator
this can be easily fixed with a short jumpper wire across two if the connectors terminals
if this is the style you have get back on this post and i will look up which wires you gotta jump
i had this problem earlier in this post last year
(look at the dates)
got a factory service manual, and all i can say is it is well well worth it if you wanna fix your own truck
