Hey guys,
I was wondering if Dodge is going to do the redesign of the Dakota in 2003 to make it look more like the Ram. I sure hope not as I think Dodge took a step back with the new design. It is big and all, but it just doesn't have that mean, agressive look the old Ram and our Dakotas now have. If they do change the Dakota, I will be glad I bought my 2001 before it got changed!

Last I've heard, no changes should be made until at least 2004. But I'm usually wrong about stuff like that anyway. They're too busy re-designing the 2500's and the 3500's to do anything for 03.
I agree with you, however, that the new 1500's look a bit non-agressive. I don't know why they put all that money into changing the RAM when probably 90% of the people in this world were happy with the agressive look it had pre-2002.
If you ask me, they should have put money into making the inner-workings of the Dakota and the RAM more unbreakable. IE the ball joints, the tranny, and all the stupid little things that break.
--Anyone hear anything about a new Ram-based SUV Dodge is supposed to be coming out with -- to comete with the Excursion/Suburban?

I don't know the details of it .. But Yes DeaPee there is a Full-Sized SUV out there it's sold in Mexico but no in the US... Why you ask? Because of the saftey restrictions that we have in place in the US. Perhaps you could buy one in Mexico and then drive it back but who knows... Heh you think getting mods for the Dakota are hard...
Scratch that last part the mods are probably the same as for the Rams.

Yeah, I actually saw one of the SUV running around in Houston w/ Mexican plates.. It looked like the 2001 Ram front with the ~85 RamCharger shaped back. Had RamCharger badges on it. Full size, but 2 door. Pretty cool looking really.

I see quite few of those RamChargers down here since im real close to the border. But I really dont think that those things are big enough to compete with like a surburban or especially an excursion.

No doubt about that! Gen2 was the peak of design beauty and sales appeal IMHO. I read the inhouse designers want to make the new Dakota EVEN BIGGER and more like the RAM, but the new boss has shut that off hard. Where it goes from here I don't know. Maybe there is still hope for an appealing new (old) Dakota...

I wouldn't expect a Dakota 'till '04 or '05, and it'll probably be quite a bit different (think mini power wagon or D80 show cars) :(
They cancelled the big Dodge SUV, didn't have the money, market, or CAFE ratings for it...
