My recently-purchased Pirelli Scorpion Zeros
totally rock in the wet (and dry) here in the
Pacific Northwest.
BUT - snow is a different story!
Traction - what traction?
I couldn't even do extremely-slow speed
parking maneuvers at our local ski area with
fresh clean snow/hardpack and no sand
down.
Good thing I keep chains in my Dak! At least I
was able to get out of traffic's way to chain up.

I ordered some Scorpion Zeros from tirerack.com and expect them today! My only worry is tread life though. Is the tread really soft and will it wear out after just a little while?

The Scorpions have a UTOG rating of 140 AA. The 140 is an relative indication of how long the tire tread will last. The Goodyears that come on the truck from the factory have a 360 AB rating. That means under the same driving conditions the Goodyears will last about 2 1/2 times as long.

How long your tires last depends on the road conditions and your driving habits. But yes in order to get those tires to stick, they are giving up life of the tire.

According to Consumer Reports, tread wear ratings across brands are not compairing apples to apples. There is not a uniform standard for wear ratings. Each tire maker had a different scale. How different was not said. You can compare directly within the same brand.

So, as long as I (try to) drive in snow, they will
never wear, eh?

Just a few minutes ago I got my tires from FedEx! These things look like monsters compared to my stock tires. All there is now is the rims, and they should be here anytime now. Weeee.
