Message: Just wanted to pass on some info on Dodge airbags. I'm a firefighter and as such I have responded to many auto accidents. I've noticed, that on alot of Dodge vehicles involved, that their airbags failed to deploy? I've talked to several other FF's,and they've noticed this same thing. Any input on this subject? And yes they are full frontal impacts.

Message: In response to Howdy's note, nothing against you, but when you say "many" and "alot" what kinds of numbers are you talking about? In order for an airbag to deploy, their must be a certain amount of deceleration that the sensor experiences to fire the bag. Contrary to popular beleif an airbag sensor does not deploy from an impact with the sensor (FireRescue magazine, December 2001) I did some research and heres some of what I came up with. Ironically the Dakota appeared to have the worst crash test rating in its class.
From Insurance Institute For Highway Safety Q+A:
How serious does a frontal crash have to be for an airbag to inflate?
Most airbags are designed to inflate in crashes equivalent to hitting a solid barrier at 10-12 mph. Some manufacturers use different inflation thresholds depending on whether people are using their safety belts. Thresholds of 10-12 mph are used for unbelted occupants, but thresholds are higher -- about 16 mph -- for people with belts because they're unlikely to be injured in crashes at slower speeds.

Just some stuff for those interested to look at. Anyone else have any experiences with Dodge airbags?

Message: Is your browser set to check for newer versions of webpages? If you use Internet Explorer go to tools up top, and then internet options and then temporary internet files settings to change or see. It could be why new stuff is not showing up.

Message: If you're rear-ended, they don't go off. howdy...how long have you been a firefighter for and how many calls have you been to. Of those calls, how many were cars wrecked in the front, and of those, how many were Dodges?
I was a firefighter for a year and a half. We averaged 400 calls a year (which is the highest for any company in my area). Of those 400 a year, only about 30 were vehicle accidents (which is a hich number -- we have 2 highways in our call area). And of those 30 wrecks a year, only about 15 were full-frontal collisions (wrecks where the air bags should deploy). And of those 15 vehicles where the air bags should have deployed, I don't remember one Dodge being involved. You must live 1,000 miles from a Ford, Chevy, Saturn, Toyota, Mitsubishi, GMC, Pontiac, Chrysler, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Cadillac, Lexus, and Jeep dealer...and about 5 miles from the nearest Dodge dealer.
