 Subject: Swapping 98 gauge cluster for 99

Hey ... I've got some probs with the gauge cluster in my 98 dak... need to get a new one but some of the prices are insane..
A buddy of mine works at an auto shop and they have a mint condition cluster from a 99 dakota they'd let go for cheap... Same set, tach and all, except it's got the LED odometer instead of the old LCD.
Anybody know if the wiring is the same for this one? Also, does the cluster keep the odo reading or is it stored in the computer?
