Help me, In the past few months my truck has ran fine then all of a sudden my temp would spike up and the check guadges light would come on. Well It happened again today so I put in a Robert Shaw 180 t-stat (I cross threaded one of the bolts, DOH!) and after taking the dodge for a ride to check it out, it ran fine, cooler than usual. When I got home I left it running for a little while and the temp kept rising. Finally I shut it off at over 210. It was still rising. Help me, I need my truck tomorrow.
If this has anything to do with it I put one of those fake braided hose dress up kits over the hose.
Help me
Roby

Does it boil over? Perhaps a bad sending unit causing the lights to go off and gauge to rise?

It's a very obvious statement, but I'll type it anyway. Are you sure the water pump and fan are working? If it indeed is getting hot that quick, the water is not circulating or cooling properly. The above post is also worth considering. There are only a couple of reasons engines overheat while sitting still.

Actually that's the conclusion me and one of my buddies came to. But when I'm idle at a stop it still rises and over heats. But this condition has finally pushed me into looking into a trade in, I'm probally going to keep the dakota, buttttttttttt, i'm seriously considering.

So did you try a new fan clutch or waterpump? Sounds like the fan clutch needs to be replaced.

210 to 230 is not a problem with proper coolant mixture . If it's not boiling over then it may be a sending unit . Or you may have something blocking a pasageway , your fan isn't working ,
have the radiator cleaned , make sure the water pump is pumping water . take the cap off when the engine is cold and start it up and check for water flow and for a temp change when the thermostat opens . If it boils over quick you have a air in the system either that or a head gasket that is blowing compression into the system creating air pockets . the one atmosphere cap keeps if from boiling over but not if the blowby froma head gasket is equalizing the system My .02 worth
