Subject: Intake leak IP: Logged
Message: How can a guy check for an intake gasket leak? I've read about the symptoms, using oil and pinging. Mine doesn't use any oil, but it pings a lot unless I run 92 in it all the time.
TIA,
Chad

Message: Take off the airhat so that the throttlebody is exposed. Use the throttle linkage to open the butterflies all the way (I'm assuming you don't have a 4.7L) and look down into the intake manifold. you should be able to see the bottom with a flashlite. If there is a lot of nasty oily shmoo all over it, you're leaking. If it's kind of dry and sooty, you're fine.

Message: Yeah, I have the 5.2L. Thanks a ton. I've been getting concerned about this, it sound like a pretty common problem.
Thanks again.

Message: If you want to try and fix it yourself, you can go to www.fast4x4.net and look under the HowTo's section. Jon is really good with the 5.2 motors. He's really got a good site.
