Hi, I'm in the process of ordering my new Quad Cab from Carsdirect.com and I've been lurking around here for several weeks.

I haven't found any posts in the archives regarding the benefits of having 4X4 and 4X2. Sad to say, there isn't a 4X4 available in my area so I'll have to go with 4X2. It's too bad though, because I really liked the way 4X4 looks "proportional."

Maybe sometime in the future, the new Rancho suspension lift for the 2000+ will be available.

Hopefully, I'll be getting Sports Plus package with the options I want.

Welcome to the Club! I know you will love your new Dakota. I bought a 2001 Club Cab 4x4 last june and I have been nothing but pleased with it. Like you, I like the way the 4x4 looks over the 4x2. I will tell you that if you are not 100% sold on the 4x2, it may be better to wait a month or so and see if they can get a 4x4 in your area, or order direct from the factory and get exactly what you want. You don't want to plunk down that kind of cash and not be completely happy with what you got. Just my two cents!

Just the opposite here in seattle. Most are 4X4's and it rarly snows. Its like that with the chevy trucks too. YOu can get a 4X4 extended cab or a 4X4 extened cab.
Have you seen the 4X2 with the tire and handling package? They look real nice and sit only a hair lower then the 4X4.

I have to agree with Bill, when I get that $440 a month bill, it kinda hurts but I'd rather pay $440 per month than $350-400 and not be happy with it. I would also suggest that if your buying it new, order it, that's what I did, That way you don't have but maybe 3 miles on it, and you can break it in.

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses! I decided to go with the 4X2, since several posters here said that the 4X2 with the tire and handling package is only a "hair" lower than the 4X4 (how much are we talking about?) and after several phone conversations with the car salesman, we finally found a black 2002 Dodge Quad Cab with the 24C package (Sports Plus). It was definitely difficult to find a Quad Cab with the Sports Package. Of course, the package includes the tire and handling which is great.

I don't think I'll be lifting my 4X2 though. I wouldn't feel comfortable modifying the new Dakota several weeks after the purchase. I'm just going to leave it "as is" without any future modifications.

But, if I need to correct some flaws or failure on any parts of the Dakota, I will.

Thanks for letting me share the good news. I pick up my black Dakota this Friday. Woo hoo!
