Message: Does anyone have a contact for a MOLDED wood dash kit for the 02 QC? The flat kits abound, but I'm unable to locate one that is molded one-piece. The one the dealer sells looks like it might be, but it's difficult to tell from the pic.
TIA,
Mark

Message: Hi Mark,
I just got the 5 pc one shown in the Dak accesories catalogue (#8220684) I'm not impressed for the price and its going to be very delicate to install with only 2 hands. There are 2 side caps and one top cap that have curved edges and must butt against the main piece over the stereo/heater. One mistake and it'll probably look like crap which it may anyway.
The instructions say its for a '01 Dak but the part is supposedly for the '02 which I have.

Message: Audie,
Thx for the info. Could you elaborate a little for me? Is there 1 main piece for the dash that is hard molded (not at all flexible) and seperate more plyable pieces for the a/c vent area's? The Dak catalogue is vauge at best when describing exactly what pieces you get. The kits I've used before were 3M sticky backed - is this the same as what you have? If so, I installed the more flexible flat dash kit in my Lexus, and it turned out great - just take your time and be sure the dash is very clean. You say you were'nt impressed for the cost - is just the look or the quality?
Thanks for your help with this Audie!

| Mark, You've got mail - RE: Molded wood dash IP: Logged
Message: Hi Mark,
I sent you 3 .jpgs of the kit. After doing a lot of experimental fitting to line the pieces up I have decided I am returning the kit for a refund. The end and top cap pieces have to be fitted up against the main piece over the stereo/heater and they attach at about a 30 degree angle as you will see when you look at your dash. Due to some imperfections in the concave edges of the pieces and the angle on which they must be applied, my feeling is that they will look like tacky pieces of glued on plastic even if the installation is almost perfect. Any mistakes will be EXTREMELY noticeable and there will be fairly deep distinct cracks where the pieces abut (due to the angle).
Some other things I do not like about the kit is that it is very dark without much of a distinct wood grain. Also there is a cover plate for the left vent and none for the passenger one. In my opinion they could have made the stereo/heater cover and the sides in one molded piece and included a couple of plates to go over the door lock and window controls.
I have seen web site pictures of the aftermarket one piece kit for the ’99 Daks and it looks decent, but it’s not always easy to tell from the pictures and description as I found out.
Hope this helps ….. Audie

Message: Audie,
Above and beyond my friend, above and beyond. I see what you are referring to with the alignment of the pieces and I agree with your decision on a refund. I think I'll wait to see what after market products are developed. I know autoash.com makes one for the 00'Dak and 02' Durango that look great because it IS all one piece molded real wood. I'm waiting on a return call from them to let me know if one will be available soon for the 01'-02' Dak. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again Audie,
Mark

Message: Thanks for the link Mark. The kits with 12-14 pieces sound a bit intimidating. Please let me know if you end up finding something that looks good and doesn't require a detail specialist to install.
Cheers ..... Audie
