Subject: New Truck? IP: Logged
Message: Alright, I am looking to upgrade to a brand new truck...but I don't have all that much money to throw into it. My truck is being appraised at about $10,000, but I belive I can get maybe $13,00 or $14,000 for it. I still owe $9,000 on it, so I would have like a $4,000 down payment. I was looking at a '01 SLT Plus Club Cab 4X4, which goes MSRP for $25,750. The dealer says that with these numbers...I can get it for about $420/mo (for 60 months) but this is too much for me to pay. I am looking for like $300-$350/month, and no more. Does anyone have any suggestions on were I can get a truck like this, for this kind of money? Any replies will be appreciated...thanks a bunch!!

Message: 4k in equidy (sp) is stretching it. Also, if you sell it for 11k, your still not gaining anything. Reason is the 10k for your trade in will not be taxed again. So if you sold your truck to a private party then went and bought the 25k truck, your paying sales tax 25k instead of 10k.

Message: ok...just got word from my dealer. If I don't trade in my truck, but sell it outright, and I put $2,500 down...they will give me the truck for $349/mo, for 60 months. That is a total of $23,440...I think I will ask them to take the truck down to $22,000...then see what they have to say...anyone with comments/suggestions? My payments should be right in my range then!
BTW, these prices are incuding Tax Title and License, as well as all interest rates.

Message: You realize that I am MORE than willing to bet, you can get a 02 CC SLT+ 4x4 w/ LS around that price. My 02 SLT+, RC, 4.7L, LS, 3.92, buckets, power everything, was 17,000, a CC is about 3000 or something more on invoice, and 4x4 is I thought 3000 more too. Where do you live, I live within 150 miles of two VERY good dealerships and I can make a quick call and find out.

Message: I just bought a new 2001 QC 4.2 Sport plus 2 weeks ago. Sticker was $26,400. They knocked it down to $24,500 then there is Daimler Chrysler $2000 dealer cash which brought mine down to $22,500 before trade in. The dealer cash is nice since it comes right off the top (unlike a rebate) so there is no tax on the 2G. Thats the deal I made on a 2001 if that helps.

Message: I called one of the dealers today and I got a rough price quote on one (not far off, just stuff like accessories or liek heated mirrors, block heater etc if you want that stuff).
He said: 2002 ClubCab Dakota 4.7L 4x4 SLT+ manual, power everything is 22820 + 35 for 3.92 gears +251 for the LSD for other stuff like buckets seats, block heater, etc it shouldn't be too much more. To get an automatic (I don't know WHY you would want one) is an extra like 900 or so dollars. This is Dave Smith Motors located in Kellog, ID. That's what, a 1600 mile drive..ouch. I'm not saying BUY from here, but I am saying you can get a better deal.

Message: Well, I talked to my dealer again today, and they said that the price i was given was for 72 months, not the 60 months i was thinking. At $350/mo plus my $2,500 down payment...that comes out to $27,700. MSRP on the truck is $25,750....WHAT A RIP OFF!!! I'm going to tell my dealer to shove it and i'm gonna check out some other dealers, and give Dave Smith Motors a call and possibly take your advice and fly out to drive the truck back.
Thanks for your help guys!!

Message: AWESOME JOB! SHow them dealers up! There is also a decent dealership in Ronan, MT -- they should also be able to give you invoice. Hersbird -- a guy on this forum -- got theirs from there if I remember right.
A suggestion..You can call dave smith, have them fax you what it would cost to have your truck built and then take it to your local dealership and tell them to match it, and not a PENNY more, tell them to not to waste your time. That fax from them will tell them you are serious. Tell them they still get a good hold back of probably 700 dollars (which is $23,333.333.. at Dodge's standard 3%.
Most dealers make most of their profit on the ext. warranties, used cars, and interest, not new car sales. I would go with a bank for a loan personally, but the choice is up to you. Also, be sure to sign up for the Farmers "B-ur-ough" (I dunno how to spell it). There still might be that 500 dollar rebate for being a member, which is a $35 fee, and you get 500 dollars off! WOOHOO!
