Message: Thats the million doller question!! I'm debating that too. The only think that keeps me from the auto is the reliabilty factor. Sticks seem to last longer, make slightly more power and have fewer failures. On the other hand driving in Seattle traffic with a stick can sometimes suck. An auto makes my commute ALLOT better. But then if I install a turbo or SC kit will the 45RFE hold the additional torque? WHo knows, I dont there there are many people testing that now.

5 speed gives more control.
Auto gives more constant e.t.'s for bracket racing

Message: I disagree with ya. a good person behind a stick can get a constant et. Yes it takes skill but it can be done. I do agree with the control part though if you are in snow or mud you dont want to apply all the power at once so you may start out in like a higher gear, where as an auto you always start out in first and the only varible that you have is your throttle. In my opinion a manual can be a hassle in trafic but in the long run it is better. NOTE that is my opinion.

Message: If you dont know that much about tranys then you should probably stick with an auto and if you do get a manual i would learn on an old car or a buddies car that you dont like.

Message: Andrew, I have a 5spd w/ 3.92's. I very rarely use 1st gear. I mosttly start in 2nd. This doesn't hurt the transmission. The owners manual does say not to start in 3rd though. Don't quite know why but i'll never be starting in 3rd anyhow.

Message: I believe the 46RE, the one's behind the 360's, it's in an R/T. That is at the flywheel.
