Subject: Belt noise IP: Logged
Message: When I start my truck up in the morning, a sort of ticking noise can be heard from the front of the truck (a tick about every 1/2 second), I thought it was because the fan was cold because it goes away after it is driven, but my dad thinks that it is the belt making the noise.
Thanks

Message: You say when it is cold in the morning. It may be the lifters, and rockers ticking. The oil bleeds off over night, so they are a little dry in the morning, plus with cold oil. It's fine after it warms up right.

Message: mine did the same thing during the fall.
I had thought that the tension pulleys bearing was
going bad, but I took it to the dealership and they changed my belt. I could not reproduce the ticking noise, so all the dealership could do was change the belt. This completely solved the problem and it has not come back since.
My truck had about 6000 miles on it.
Have the dealership change the belt and it should go away.

Message: Check in the area of the power center and left fender well. My '01 Quad was doing the same, thought a lifter was going bad. WHen listening under the hood, found it was in the area of the power center and left fender well and seemed to be a relay or solenoid valve in that area.
Could it be a fuel vapor emissions solenoid of some sort?

Message: I think it is the belt making a noise on the pulley right above the tensioner on the passenger side (between the air conditioner pump and the tensioner pulley).

Message: I have a 98 5.9L that seems to be doing the same thing around the tensioner and air conditioner pulley's. I had a mechanic look at it and he seemed to think it was the tensioner bearings, I haven't had it replaced yet, but I'll let you know when I do. The sound I've got is like a squeal almost, but its definitely a metal sound
