Subject: Overhead Console Short Circuit?
IP: Logged

Message:
At night when I'm driving around, my overhead console (compass, temperature, gas mileage, etc) flickers off and on in no real pattern as if it has a short in it. During the day it doesn't do it. It only happens at night wheneven the display is at the lower "dimmed" lighted stage because the headlights are on. Has anyone else had this problem and know of a way to fix it. The dealer would just love to fix this. He'll probably charge 5 hours to tracing the wiring!

Please help.

Do you also get a hum in your stereo when this is happening? If so does it quiet down when you turn up the brightness of dash?

No, no humming in my stereo. I have a Kenwood Cassette deck with the stock speakers. No real other electrical problems. Just this glitch.

Hey Bernd, I hope you see this, On the tips and tricks page you talk about a bad ground in the dash. Is that a recall I can see the dealer about. I wonder if thats the problem?

Thanks,
Corey

Does it flicker when the truck is not moving? If not I would check the connector under the overhead console for the display.
