Subject: Reverse Noise...? IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone else have a noise when your truck is in reverse and you give it a lot of gas. The noise sounds almost like it's coming from under my dash. It's like a continual clicking (very fast and loud) noise until I let off the gas a bit. -- 01 4x4 with auto tranny and LSD...if that matters.
Also...what do you all do when it snows real bad. Do you drive around in 4-hi all the time (as long as all the roads are covered) or do you just turn it on before a hill and turn it off after it. I live in a very hilly area and I would be turning it off and on like 5 times just to get to work (10 minutes away).

Message: Don't know about the noise But if it is a snow covered road I leave the 4 hi on. Unless everyone else is going really slow then i turn it off.

Message: The noise, never had it happen to me... As far as 4x4 on snow covered roads, it's better to be caught in a situation where you have it on and be able to get out of it safely than to wish you did after... Our trucks are designed(I.F.S.) to be driven on reduced traction highways more than they are offroad so use it every chance you get, you will notice mpg dropping some but that is a small price to pay for safety. Of course, 4x4 locked in on dry roads for extended periods is not good for your front end and transfer case but unless you do it all the time, no ill-effects would probably be noticed except for REALLY bad gas mileage:) I always try to remember to switch back to 2W when I get to my destination, that way if it is not needed when I leave I don't have to worry about forgetting it is in 4W. Unfortunately when they went to the switch to choose 2W/4W/4L they got rid of the indicator underneath the speedo which showed 4W drive to save 39 cents for a lightbulb, that was pretty stupid since you can't really see the little light on the switch when you are driving since it is down so low which is one of my complaints about the dash layout. Oh well, DC should figure it out in the next 10 years or so without my input.
