Subject: Spindles. expain to me. IP: Logged
Message: Hi guys and gals,
Alright. Been talken about this for a while now. I have heard conflicting answers and what a person who knows to finally put this question to rest.
With lift spindles, do they effect the geometery of the front end? I have heard NO. Do lift spindles change the linkages of the front end? I have heard NO. Can You use 3in lift spindles with a 2-3in suspension lift with our Daks rack& pinion? Seems like you could.
I have read that lift spindles were attractive because you could lift anything using them and not screw up your trucks front end. Now people are saying our R&P cant take a 3in spindle and 3in suspension.
WHATS THE DEAL HERE?????????????
Thanks, Joe E.
PS I posted this on the off road forum and did not get much back, please help here.

Message: Ok, an idea! Thought about this for us 2wd Daks.
I was hooken up spme 6in lights on my grill guard today. As I looked intot the engine compartment at my nasty suspension's top view I thought of something. Everyone here talks about the Rack and pinion messen up the more than 3in suspension lifts. As I look at the "Tie Rod ends" I see they are connected to the spindleand bolted through. They are also bolted under the part of the spindle they attach to. So is it possible that you could take the tie rod end and bolt them to the spindle ABOVE the spindle attaching part? That would be like taking 2inches off the suspension lift off (according to the rack and pinion).
What I mean is basically flippen the tire rod ends to bolt above the spindle knob instead of below the spindle knob. Tall me what ya think.

Message: The spindle holes for the tie-rod ends are tapered. They'll only fit in one direction. But that is how they were on the mid '80's Ferd Rangers. The 2wd's had them on the bottom and the 4wd's were on top. Different spindles, but it allowed for the same steering gear to be used for the added height of the 4x4.

Message: So greg, are you saying it would not work. What do you mean by tapered? Thanks for the help.

Message: Hey guys, I was thinken if I had a set custom made by someone like Cali. Motor Sports, you think they could design the spindle to be tapered the opposit way? I mean that way, the tie rod end could be connected atop the spindle conector. what do you think? I know this is serious $ stuff too.
another idea. what about a shim of sometypr. One that could reverse the angle on the spindle conector itself, so the stock R&P tie rod end could bet bolted on top if it? Or, (crazy notion), could you by any chabce take the tie rod and curve it slightly where it would look like a drop pit arm? I know this could cause some crazy results but I am looking into everything possible and everything that pops into my head.
Thanks yall.
