Message: I have a 01 quad 4.7 with 5800 miles. When we exit the truck, you get a shock when your bare skin touches the metal. Can anyone explain this and what would cure the problem. It is a pretty good shock. Thanks in advance

Message: I used to have a piece of cardboard under my floor mat so that I wouldn't make marks in the rugs underneeth from my heals. I recently took out the card board while working in my truck and have noticed that now I am getting shocked and before I wasn't. going to put a new piece under there. I am wondering if the matt is moving around causing friction and building up a zapping charge. I would say try putting a piece of carboard under the matt below your feet see if that helps because I know I wasn't getting shocked before and dam now it hurts.

This is a very common problem and I have it also. It's been said that ScotchGuarding the seats helps as does holding the key to some metal on the door while exiting. I have thought about adding a rubber grounding strap to the chasis to see if this helps, but I haven't got around to it yet. In the meantime, I have gotten used to exiting wihout touching any metal and using my elbow to shut the door. The shock hurts a lot less on the arm than the hands.

Message: static electricty. you probably notice it more in dry weather. combination of the clothes you wear and the seat cover material. i put saddleman saddleblanket seat covers on mine and the problem is fairly nonexsitant. as for one side not shocking if there are two people involved whoever gets out first sends the charge to ground.

Message: I know that you can buy anti-static strips that attach to the frame of the car or truck and drag on the ground. It is suppost to stop to things, static being one by continously discharging to ground, and two being to reduce motion sickness. The second one I find hard to believe.

Message: Doug is right on this one. As you exit the car, you drag your butt across the cloth seat and generate a charge on your body. This will happen in every vehicle with cloth seats. Until you touch the metal, you have a difference in charge than the vehicle. When you touch the metal, you discharge, that is, the voltage difference balances, thru your finger. The best way to combat this is to get into the habit of grabbing metal, like the door frame BEFORE you get out and hold on while drag your ass. You will continually ground into the truck.
For fun, rub your socks across the carpet and then touch your dog's nose. Just like on Discovery Channel's commercial.

Message: What contributes a lot to the static electricity and the resultant exit shock are the tires we run.
Tires that have a higher mileage rating are made from a harder "rubber" compound. That way they last longer. That's the good thing.
They don't grip as well as softer compounds, and they produce more staic buildup. These are some of the bad things.
As pointed out, it's not just our Daks that give us the buzz. We just have to figure out what works to dissipate the charge before we step out and get the full charge at once.

Message: Same thing happens on my moms lumina. use your elbow to touch the metal first. Since the skin is thicker you wont feel the shock. it may seem wierd but it works. It gets rid of the annoying shock on your hands. you may look a little goofy but it helps out.

Message: This is interesting. Garth posts above that these anti static strips will reduce static shocking and motion sickness. My wife HATES to ride in my Dak with me because she is always complaining that she gets shocked on the way out, and that she gets motion sickness more in my truck than any other vehicle. I thought she was full of sh*t saying a particular vehicles static energy can cause motion sickness. Maybe she is right? Where can I get these anti static strips? I don't mind driving her 300M but I like to drive the dak with out her bitchin. The 300m has leather seats btw so that must be the reason for no static charge. She will bitch if I give her a routine to leave the truck static free, and her butts probably to big not to sweep the upholstery on the way out. Crap, I hope she doesn't read this!

Message: Ya noshock, leather seats. I like that! Thought someone might say, trade the wife in! ouch. :) Anyway, I don't know what they put in these Daks but they are addictive. I mean to tell you that mine hasn't been exactly problem free to put it lightly, BUT I can't seem to part with it. I have been eyeing a new 2500 Ram but my '99 cc dak has almost 80k miles and I think it can go at least twice that. I would like to keep it around for my kid but he won't be 16 for another 5 years, and this AZ heat will destroy the interior if I store it outside. What to do, what to do.

Message: Just a reminder that when you fill your gastank be careful that you do not arc onto the gas cap or pump handle. The vapors from filling the tank can ignite very easily. I wouldn't panic, but be aware the potential is there.

Message: if you are holding onto the metal of the door before you put your foot down (or before you slide your butt even), then the static will have a nice continuous flow to the ground and no painful arcing will occur.
so just do like i do - pull the door latch, grab the door itself to open it, THEN get out while still holding the door. problem solved.
jeff
ps - one of the (cloth) sofa's in the house is right next to metal french doors. every time i get up, i have to remember to be touching the door as i get up, otherwise when i touch the door to leave the room - ZAP!

Message: I have a '98 Cherokee. It has some other elctrical problems like I need to play with the window lock button to get the other windows to get power to them (the little green lights in the switches flicker). Anyway I also get a pretty mean shock unless I'm careful when exiting the Jeep. Also the interior lights only come on when I open any door but the driver's and sometimes the tailgate doesn't lock. Thought maybe the other elec. problems might have something to do with it. Anyone else have problems like that? Someone please let me know...Thanks
