Message: Can't figure this one out:
replaced Fuel pump today but the pump will not pump out gas?
All wires are secure and I have checked all the termainals for loose connections.
Engine turns over just no gas leaves the pump.
There is not a fuel pump relay on this 91 dakota v6 3.9 that I can find.

Message: My 93 Ranger wouldn't run once, and it was the fuel shut off switch (don't know if that's the same as a "fuel pump relay"). Sorry if my suggestion was real stupid, and I honestly don't mean to insult your intelligence with my own stupidity.

Message: Thanks for the input. Here is my update.
Fuel pump is infact pumping a little. Truck will start but will cut off sporadically. May run for 15 min and then cut off. Might start right up and then cut off again momentarily. I have now figured out the problem must be related to something electrical ( I'm a genius) or some switch i can't find. Fuel Filter is new so something else must be reducing fuel demand.
Clogged injectors?
Mystery switch /sensor / solenoid ?
I'm wide open for any suggestions. Thanks !

Message: Did you check to see if power was at the pump motor, using a test light? if power is there than i would say faulty pump. The pump should Humm if it works correctly.

Message: Thanks Kevster --
No I did not check because the pump was brand new but after your post this A.M. I did check and it appears to recieve power on an intermittent schedule. I guess that it is why it starts and runs on occasion. Thanks !

Message: If the computer senses that the engine isn't turning over it will shut off the power to the fuel pump. So see if the electrical connection is good between the pump relay and the computer/distributor. In other words, make sure the computer knows that the engine is turning over.

Message: On some vehicles there is a part that is called a ballast resistor, when this resistor goes bad it makes your truck just like what it is doing. The ones I have seen are a white ceramic looking slim unit with 2 wires plugged into it(on a jeep they are orange and orange and black). Find it and bypass the resistor by hooking the 2 wires directly to each other. The only differance you will hear is when you turn on the key, you will hear a hum from the fuel pump for about a second.
Call the dealer and ask for the part and see if you even have one on that vehicle.

Message: I've experienced a low pump PSI output in a brand new pump because of a bad resistor, after bypassing it the pressure was up and still running after 3 years.

Message: I had the same problem with my 91 Dak this summer. The plug directly connected to the pump had never been touched so when it was reconnected it wasn't making proper contact because of the corrosion. Check your plug, if my memory serves me right it's a five way plug. I cleaned mine and slapped some dilectric silicone on it and haven't had a problem since.
Good luck.
Steph.
