Does anybody out there haved a NV241 transfer case in there 4X4? I heard that they are very uncommon in Dakotas and that it is the same one that is used for 3/4 ton Dodge trucks. My 1992 Dakota (Sport CC 4X4 V8 Auto 3.92LSD)had one of them in it and it was from the factory (www.angelfire.com/ab7/befarrer/92dakota.html). We took it apart and the chain was 20 links wide compared to the stock 16 (we were going to replace it but got a NV231 chain).

I think the nv241 was for the v8 trucks and the 231 was for v 6's

Right out of the BOB (Big Orange Book= 2000 Dakota shop manual)
There are ONLY 2 available xfer cases in 2000
NV231 (ShiftOnTheFly xfer case)
NV242 (FullTime4X4)
I cannot speak for your 1992 Dak

In my 93 4x4 Dakota with auto trany and 318 I have the NP231. Hope that helps.

I have a NV241 OR (came out of a '03 Wrangler that was wrecked first day)
