Message: Inside your transfer case is what is calle a HY-VO chain. It is manufactured by Borg-Warner Automotive in Ithaca, NY. (I used to work there). The chain connects two gears in the transfer case, allowing power to be provided to the two driveshafts. These chains very seldom go bad unless severely abused (no lube??). If the chain is what is making the noise, there is no adjustment. It means that the pins in the chain have worn and the chain has elongated. The chain will have to be replaced in order to fix the problem. You would probably be looking at several hundred dollars for the replacement (thats only a guess, I've never seen a quote on this.)
It may be a good idea to try to find a junkyard transfer case with lower miles and swap yours out. FInd a good 4x4 shop in your area and ask them to check it out. It probably isn't really the chain making the noise.
