Message:
hello all i got in my dak the other day in the morning to goto work and when i started it it made i sqeaky kinda sound it doesnt sound like a belt sqeaking.it sounds like one of the pullys but i cant quite pin point it at the time. my dak has a/c it sorta sounds like it might be that but not 100% sure. if any one has any ideas please let me know as soon as possible. i was also wondering if it would be the ac is there any way for the time being that i could just get the belt for the non a/c and if it would hurt the truck or anything like that. im a little short on money threw the winters due to lack of work. please give me some ideas.thanks again Kurt

What year and what engine do you have? I have a 2000 CC 4.7, at 33,000 miles my water pump went out. I was a high pitched squeal that you just couldn't pinpoint. The bearing on the shaft went bad. Hope this helps

hey scott thanks for the info. i've got a 97 4x4 with the 5.2 V8 its not that it is really that high pitched. it is at times though. i've got 46000 miles on mine. i'm thinking it might be the a/c unit making the noise. but after the truck gets warmed up a bit it quits making the noise who knows what the he%* it is. thanks again though

Amazing timing. My truck just started making the exact same noiseabout a week ago. As well, I had the airconditioner replaced this summer, and it started making hte same rattling noise again.

I have a 99 5.2L, with 70,000 km, about 42,000 miles. How much to fix the tensioner pulley?

Got a 99 slt club cab with 5.2 and 45K on it, it's doing exactly the same. Haven't had a chance to get in and really look for it, so if the dealer comes up with a good answer, please post it!

I'd start with the cheapest thing first...the belt. You can spray WD-40 on it, if the noise stops replace it. Sometimes they get dry and start squealing, sounds like a pulley going bad. If not start-checking pulleys...I'd start with the tensioner pulley (Check it with the belt off) check for excessive play. Each pulley should be checked-Make sure they spin freely...no binding, grinding, should be smooth.
Does the noise happen all the time or at certain times?

I have a 98 with 3.9 and my tensioner pully is squeeking. The replacement costs $80.00 from Kragen. Just haven't replaced it yet. Hope that stops the annoying squeek.

To help determine where the noise is coming from you can spray any type of spray household cleaner like 409, Fantastic or just soapy water on your belt or belts. If the squeek stops it's the belt. Sometimes this will stop a squeeking belt for a long time.

okay, you have two 2 belts. 1 being the alternator belt and one being the ac belt. The ac belt fell of because the bearing in the clutch went out. How do i take the clutch off replace it with another clutch and coil.
Or i could just replace the bearings in the clutch, but i don't know how to take the damn thing off. There's one bolt in the middle of the clutch, but taking the cover off that seems to need a special tool. I don't have any$ so is there a way i can force it off?
