Subject: Terrible MPG IP: Logged
Message: Up until now I have had decent MPG (400 miles on a full tank) but last week I blew a radiator hose while on the highway and leaked antifreeze all over everything. Now the truck runs rough and I didnt even get 300 miles out of this last tank. What happened and how do I fix it?

Message: Just a thought, don't quote me on this but if any or all of your electrical and ignition system got wet that is probably why you're running rough. If you're running rough that explains the 100 or so gas miles you're losing. It doesn't take much loss in performance to make your gas mileage to plunge. My suggestion would be to go through the entire engine compartment and dry off what is wet. Get your truck running right again and I'm sure you'll get your 400 miles per tank again. Hope this helps, peace,Steph.

Message: Dang, I wish I could get 400 miles per tank.
Best I've been able to get is 314 on an Interstate trip; yes OD was on. This is in a stock '01 CC 4x4.

Message: 314 Don't think I ever made that with my 97' 280-290 is more like it. At least with not my right foot. My 2wd might make 325 but I don't know cause it is winter right now.

Message: The only good thing about a 4 banger. 350 miles to a 10 gallon tank. But I still can't stand the lack of anything resembling power.

Message: CW, the trip was 95% flat and I used cruise all the way which obviously helped a lot.
Regular commute on twisty, hilly 2 lane road and 8 stop lights with 50 mph as the highest speed limit gets me 235 to 255 miles per tank.
If I stomp on it more than 3 miles per tankful I end up with the fuel light on at 200 miles, go figure :-)

Message: What are you all talking about? You must all ahve the 4x4 with auto trans and 3.92 gears or something!
Our 4x2 Quad with 4.7L and 3.55 gears averages 19mpg in the Sierra Foothills where flat is unheard of. We have the pre-oxidized fuel that costs nearly 2mpg on the gallon.
We got 23.5mpg between the southern coast of Oregon and Seattle, Washington. That was non-MTBE gas and the tailgate off.
Our Mazda MPV minivan with a 3.0L V6 got 3mpg less than our Quad. I'm not complaining.

Message: I have a 01 CC 4x4 with the 3.9L. The pisser is I have the 3.92 rear end and shoots my MPG readings. I love it when I am towing, but not when I am filling up. I average about 15-16 on most interstate driving. I have a hard tonneau cover, but it didn't seem to affect my MPG hardly at all. I just drove my truck to the lowest I have gotten it and got just about 300 miles exactly before it hit "E".

Message: Besides from drying everything off - which I
have done - what else can I do? The radio is
starting to act funny so the eletrical system
must have gotten wet. Is there an easy way to
find out what is causing it to lose
power/performance?
