Subject: Plugs, Wires, Engine Prob. IP: Logged
Message: Here is the deal. I just replaced my plugs and wires with Bosch platinums (not the +4), and AC Delco 7.5mm wires. I started up my Dakota immediately after and thigns sounded great. When I went back to start it again to leave the garage I worked in I noticed a loud ping (or click) from the engine. It sounds like the lifters to me but I couldn't understand why replacing the plugs or wires would do that. Should I just stick with a regular plug? I was wondering if the noise would be coused by a spark plug not firing. I plan to put the old plugs back in tomorrow to make sure its not the wires but I was hoping someone could let me know if the single point ignition Bosch Platinums are okay to use because I heard the +4 type weren't. Like I said I am about 90% sure it is the lifters clicking and I didn't understand how different plugs would cause that. The noise was not there before and it only occured after the engine turned hot. Thanks

This sounds like an electrical spark.
Check your "wire to plug" connections as well as the "wire to distributer cap" connections to be sure they have "clicked" into place.
