Message: They should run just fine on 87/89 octane fuel unless you're running a Mopar PCM (or Jet/Hypertech "chip").
What year/make/model is this problem on?

Message: Yes, mine does it to. It is a 1999 5.2L with 60k miles. I am going to try a K&N intake kit, 180 stat, and autolite plugs to fix the ping.

Message: My '99 5.2 ran fine on 87 before I put the Mopar PCM in it. I can still use 89 even with the PCM. Check the TSBs for the one on pinging. It tells you how to reroute the spark plug wires to stop that problem.
