Message: i'm thinking about buying a 2000 r/t but there's one thing that kinda worries me. the original owner put a dual exhaust on it and he took off the catalic converter?..don't know if that's how you spell it, but since he did this the oxygen sensor makes the check engine light come on...is there an easy way to fix this?

Message: The easy fix is to order Bernds Kat box. It will make the check engine light stay out. Here it is at www.speedtweaks.net

Message: Your check engine light will function proporly. All this box does is fool the computer into thinking that there is a convertor there. That is all.

Message: alright, thanks a lot
p.s. is 15,900 a decent price for a 2000 dakota r/t extended cab, 15,000 miles, power everything, cd/cassete/power driver seat, overhead console, etc, etc?

Message: Yes, that is a good price but I'd pull the code to make sure the check engine light is from only the cats/O2 not being there . Otherwise you could install the O2 simulator (cat box) and still have a check engine light from something else.
Also run a VIN check & see if you can get the repair history from the dealer.

Message: i'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to mechanical things with vehicles, besides stereos, can you explain how I'd pull the code to make sure the check engine light is from only the cats/O2 not being there? well...right now the rear quarter panel was hit, someone hit it while it was at the lot, but their fixing that.

Message: I'd be suspision on the "hit at the lot" deal. They could be hiding some wreck. Befor you buy it, if you decide to, take it to another dealer and ask them to pull the codes. The PCM (powertrain computer) stores trouble codes. For example, if a alternator goes out, the computer will set a code. Then the technition hookes up a computer or scanning software to it (autotap.com) and reads the code and cross-references that to a description on the problem.
Since there is damage, that is not a good price. You didn't say that at first and that makes a diff.
That price you stated is good only if the truck is in excellent condition. No dings, scrapes and never been wrecked.
Unless they give you one helava deal, I'd pass on it. Not having a cat can/may cause a problem when you go smog it or re-sell it. Its illigal to remove the cats.

Message: The only thing I would be concerned with is depending upon where you live you may not be able to get the truck registered without reinstalling the cats. Here in California it's that way. Check your local laws before making the deal.

Message: i don't think it'd be a problem getting it registered, i live in illinois and judging by some of the vehicles that are driving around i don't think the laws would be very stiff. what would be a good price for this truck if the only problems were the rear quarter panel was hit and the oxygen sensor issue i described above
thanks

Message: That deal is pretty good. I paid $15,300 for my '00 R/T with 11,000 miles about 8 months ago, but it's a regular cab. Economy is HURTING bad now, so take advantage of it. I'd offer $14,500 cash. If they don't take it, just walk out and i can almost guarantee they'll call you back within 2 days.

Message: From the 4adodge.com website, you can view inventory on dealers lots. But only some of them. Click on "Find a dealer" from the top of the home site, enter in area code and it will come up with a list of dealers. The listings with "View dealers site with inventory" are the ones you want. Right click the link and choose "open link in new window", otherwise that window with the dealer listings will close then you have to do all that over again to search another lot.
I would call ahead instead of driving down there for the lots with no online inventory. Ask for the new car manager or used car manager so you don't get some knucklehead.
