Subject: Tow Hooks... IP: Logged
Message: Sorry to revisit an old topic, but I couldn't find my answer in any recent posts. I have a 98 Dak Club Cab 4X4 that I purchased over the summer. I am happy with the performance, and think it would work to tow people out of ditches (I live in Wisconsin...normally lots of snow and people getting stuck...) My problem is, I haven't found any spot to mount tow hooks on it. I don't care if they are coming out the front, back, side, or top...I just want something that I can pull someone out of a ditch or snowbank with. Any comments are appreciated...and I am thankfull for this board...Nice job Mark!!!!

Message: I think mopar offers a set but you have to remove the bumper to put them on. They are a little expencive.

Short answer: Mopar front tow hooks are no longer available.
If you only want to pull other folks out, best bet is a frame-mounted receiver hitch. Use a two-inch tow strap without hooks. Stick one loop of the strap inside the receiver and secure it with a hitch pin. Solid connection which can't fail unless the strap breaks or the trailer hitch fails.

Message: They are no longer available? That sucks! They were great for the older daks! I installed some on my 98 and the hooks were rated to pull more then the hitch in back! 1 hook can hold 5500 lbs, just think what 2 can do!

Message: You can buy tow hooks from the store, like Reese, and put them in the rear on the frame. Without a hitch you have to drill one hole for each hook, and use a factory hole for the other bolt of each hook. Takes about 20 minutes. With a hitch I think you have to drill both holes for each hook, depending on where the holes allign between the hitch and the frame, hope this helps.
