Subject: Help--the dumbest thing I've ever done IP: Logged
Message: Did you know that Quaker State ATF-3 trani fluid contaniners looks like motor oil containers?
I accidentally just poured a quart of ATF-3 trani fluid in my oil pan in my Ford Taurus (not a Dakota, but a engine nonetheless). Realizing my incredible mistake, I simply pulled the Taurus back into the garage, so I didn't have the motor on long.
Will I by okay if I simply just drain the pan and refill with oil, or do I need to get some of that Motor Gunk to be certain I clean it out.
Appreciate any wisdom to help an obviously mentally challenged man.

Message: You will be just fine. I know of lots of times where people have put a half a quart into a engine to help clean it out. The trans fluid is very high in detergents. Every time I work on one my hands come out very clean.

Message: Relax, ATF shouldn't do any harm to your
engine - just dump it and start over. I used to
put diesel fuel in crankcases to clean them
out in VWs.

Message: Thanks, folks...
You were much kinder to me than my wife was when I told her it was probably best we not drive the car until I changed the oil. Now she's stuck with me the next two mornings for the drive into work :-)
I hate changing oil in the cold. I was only planning on changing the oil in the Dakota. Now I have it and the Taurus to do this weekend.
I'm getting too old for this :-)
Thanks for the help, as always, everyone.
