Subject: door jamb switch IP: Logged
Message: My 96 Dak that I just got has a problem. The interior light does not come on when the driver's door is opened but it does when the passenger door is opened. Any quick&dirty fixes for this? Must be a bum switch. Is it easily replaced?
Thanks!

Message: I never really paid attention to what kinda door switch my 01 Dak has, but if you have a mechanical switch(the kind you can push in with your finger to turn the dome light on and off), blast the hell out of it with electrical contact cleaner and then some WD-40, if that doesn't work, it should be cheap and easy to replace anyway. They usually thread into chassis and are easily removed with a deep socket or wrench and then unplugging the wire off the back without letting it go back through hole! If it is a contact switch where there is a piece on the door and piece mounted to cab that touch together when door is shut, they are very reliable and could be an electrical problem:( You could take both sides apart and also spray with electrical cleaner which may work, before trying to trace down the problem.
