Message: 97 5.2 STICK I work for Chrysler and A engineer told that they press them so you can,t take them out He could be right I hope not.It would
be a waste to scrap the whole hub. I did get the snap ring off and removed the dust cover off the first bearing they were dry so I just washed the bearing and replaced as much grease as they would hold this helped but they are still makeing noise on corners but not going strait line

Message: My truck has 100K. But When the noise started the front wheels had a film that looked like rust. After a rain this was very noticable. This is probably because the dust cover on the bearing is done for.

Message: My truck goes in to the dealer Friday. Front right wheel bearing is leaking grease after 30K miles.
The 2-WD has dual row sealed wheel bearings. The dealer ordered an entire hub to fix it.
I would guess the bad ones get sent in to aftermarket rebuilders that press the bearings out and press new ones in and then distribute them through Autozone or Kragen or Napa.
Only 30K... Sheesh. And the 2-WD does not have dust caps on the 2001 models.

Message: Just to let everyone know(again) you CAN grease your front hub bearings if equipped with 4WD & 4 wheel ABS. I have done this myself on our '97 Dak-kind of a pain in the @$$(remove wheels, calipers, rotors, and wheel speed sensor)-but with new hub assembly cost of $260-$300 it's worth it!

Message: Damn "Guy Tate" they took you to the cleaners. Front hub assembly cost $90 for me at NAPA and I paid 30 bucks to have it installed at a local garage. Would have done it myself but didn't have the time. Shop around, it can be done cheaper next time.

Message: The front hub wheel bearing on a 2wd GenIII can be replaced without replacing the entire hub assembly, bearing costs about $30-40. It's in there tighter than a b1tch and takes some serious pressure to get it out, but it's possible to replace just the front wheel bearing, did it on my 01 CC and 03 QC without problems.
Now,,, if you go to the dealer and ask for a front wheel bearing they will give you all sorts of wierd looks because thier book shows the bearing only comes as an assembly,,, and the ny-lock castle nut must be replaced... another $30
