Well, I think the infamous ball joint squeak has inflicted my Dak. The front end noise just started this morning (~16K miles). I hear it when taking a corner, going over a bump, accelerating and decelerating. I also can replicate the noise by pushing down on my front left fender.
Can anyone recommend a good set of ball joints that are greasable and won't break the bank?
Chuck, as far as I'm aware, and the dealer has told me, Dodge knows there is a problem with the ball joints wearing out and they WILL replace them under warrenty even if it has run out. The ball joints are only lasting a little over two years because they are sealed and can not be greased. I would be back at the dealer every two years and get them to replace them since they know its a problem.

Thanks for posting this, Garth ;-)
My warranty is still active as my Dak only has 16K miles on it and is just a tad over 2 years old. I have a major problem taking my beloved Dak into dealerships in my area and will do everything I can to avoid them.
I am currently looking into a kit from P-S-T which inludes polygraphite bushings and ball joints. The only problem is that their kits only go up to '98. Does anyone know if there is a difference in '98 and '99 2WD suspensions?

Message: I just had my upper and lower ball joints replaced on my 99 dakota under warranty with 36K miles on it. My question is, do I purchase the extended warranty for the truck?
P.S. @ 24K miles I had the motor rebuilt because of a knock, and at 36K miles I had the crank shaft changed out because it wore out instead of the thrust bearing. Which was all warranty work.
So should I buy the extended power train warranty or take a chance with out it?
Thanks

Message: Dang you went post diggin' didn't ya? There are lots of folks on here that claim it helps but since DC's official story is that water is getting in and ruining the joint I can't help but to think poking a hole into the boot, regardless of how small, couldn't be a good thing.

Message: We finally got the dealership to replace the ball joints on our 2000 Dakota all though the warranty had run out. We had been complaining for three years about the noise. What they would not fix is the AC blowing on the floor and the dash, incorrectly even thou they know the wrong arm was installed on the dampener door.
The biggest problem however has been the BRAKES. We have 90,000 miles on it now, but have had to replace the rotors TWICE and are in need of turning again. Replaced the rear drums once. Keep in mind this truck has only seen interstate miles.
The second biggest problem has been that the truck was purchased with the tow package yet runs hot.
