Message: Just recently I let my Aunt take my '87 4*4 Dak to haul some stuff. Its a five speed and she thought it was only four. And she supposedly knew how to drive a manual. So now something in my transmission or clutch is screwed up. I'm not sure what though. It makes kind of a chattering noise when I let out on the clutch. It goes into every gear fine and has a good pull to it. It just has that chattering to it. So if anybody knows whats wrong, let me know. Thanks.

Message: I know exactly what it is man. It's the imput shaft bearing and if you don't change it, it will break and tear your gears to pieces. I know this because it's exactly what happened to mine.

Message: You realy need to drop the transmission. It could be the pilot bearing, friction plate, pressure plate or fly wheel. If you have to drop the tranny you might as well put a nice custom clutch in! Look into Kevlar it has the feel of an organic clutch but will last 3-10 times longer then organic clutchs. The easiest way to remove the pilot bearing with out the right tool is to pack the area behind the bearing with grease. Then take a bolt that is close to the same size as the hole in the center of the bearing, wrap a cloth around the bolt and insert it into the hole, tap the bolt with a rubber mallet and the bearing will pop right out. Make sure you use lock tite on the flywheel bolts!

Message: I am betting that she slipped the clutch so much that it warped the clutch and pressure plate.
