Subject: Tips on getting the starter out? 88 3.9l
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm trying to get the starter out of my 88 3.9l 4x4 but i just cant manage to get at the one lower bolt holding it on. It is in a really cramped location, and i cant even get a retchet in there. If anyone has done this before and has a little trick or suggestion to help me out, that would be awsome, TIA,

-Jason

I finally got it, for any of you that might have to do this: 1 universal joint, 1 wobble socket, 2 6 inch extensions, 1 5/8" shallow socket. I got at it from the bottom, but u have to take off a skid plate, thats about the only place i think you can even get to it...

i know exactly what you mean. i was hooking up some headers on one at work last week and i found out the hard way where the starter was located when i dropped my ratchet on it. sparks flyin every which way..lol. my boss thought i got hurt and bout crapped his pants. i saw that one bolt from underneath when i was mounting the one header. not too easy to get too

Just in case if anyone else checks this forumn...if you want a really easy way to get at the starter, just take off the rubber flap on the front drivers side wheel well. It took me and hour to get mine out and go to the store, buy a new one, and put it back in. And im only 17 so im pretty sure anyone can do it.
